Understanding the Override

Community Bulletin #3

About $1 per week…
My taxes are high enough.  How much is this going to cost me?
  • Based on the average assessed home value of $194,435, the average Easthampton homeowner will pay an extra $54 on their annual property taxes.
  • That’s $13.50 on each quarterly bill, or an average of $1.04 per week
  • This will not be a permanent increase in taxes.  It’s expected that this will take 5 years to pay off.
  • We can’t avoid this, we can only delay it.  And the longer we wait, the more costs will rise.
November 8, the critical first step…

What will we be voting on November 8?

Voting YES on November 8 will raise $1.2 million to pay for a complete set of detailed plans for a new Easthampton Elementary School and important renovations to Easthampton High School.

What’s so important about a set of plans?
The newly formed Massachusetts School Building Authority is gearing up to create a new priority list for new school construction projects in the spring of 2007.
Before the city can get on the state’s priority list, and obtain financial aid from the state to help finance new school construction, these plans must be complete.
By completing these plans in 2006, we’ll be ready, just in time for the all-important spring 2007 date.

Vote YES to pass the override on November 8th!

And…we could use your help.

There is never a “good time” to spend money, but there is a “right time.”

And the right time is now for Easthampton Schools.
